Former Italian medley swimmer best known for his career success in the 400 m medley, including ten European and World Championship medals in the event. He also competed in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Olympics.

In 2006, he beat Laszlo Cseh, the world record holder, for the gold medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships.
