Italian politician and economist who served as the 2nd President of Italy from 1948 to 1955. He was also a founding member of the Consulta Nazionale which helped found a new Parliament of the Italian Republic after World War II.
He graduated from the University of Milan and the University of Turin.
He found his start in politics as an anti-fascist journalist for Italian newspapers.
He had a son named Mario with wife Ida Pellegrini.
He greatly opposed Benito Mussolini's fascist regime during World War II.
