Remembered for his roles in such 1950s and '60s films as El 7 Leguas and The Mask of Death, he is also notable for his portrayal of Padre Tomas in the 1990s Mexican television series Bajo un Mismo Rostro.
He played his first major role in the 1944 feature film Sota, Caballo y Rey.
He portrayed El Mismo in the 1964 musical comedy movie Mexico de Mi Corazon.
He was born and raised in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. His first marriage (to Ana Maria Almada) resulted in daughters named Martha Fernanda and Anna Luisa; his second marriage (to Rosario Galvez) produced a son named Luis.
He co-starred with Eulalio Gonzalez in the comedic Western film De Tal Palo Tal Astilla (English title: Chip on the Shoulder).
