Republican Governor of South Carolina from 2003 to 2011 who made national news in 2009 when he went missing for six days and then later confessed to having an affair with an Argentinian woman. However, he overcame his infidelity scandal in 2013 when he was elected a Congressman for South Carolina's 1st district.
He reached the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve after enlisting in 2003.
He was censured in 2011 by the South Carolina General Assembly following allegations that he had misused state travel funds to conduct his affair with a woman from Argentina.
He has four children. He was married to Jenny Sullivan from 1989 to 2010. He later became engaged to Maria Belen Chapur.
He was the 115th Governor of South Carolina, which was an office previously held by Ernest Hollings.
