She had been living on her own since the age of 13 and relied heavily on escorting to pay her bills. She had tried three times to receive her cosmetology license before rejoining Franklin Beauty School during the time of Houston Beauty.
She struggled during her time at Franklin as the director of the school Glenda "Ms. J" Johnson would only refer to her under her former name Ryan and wouldn't let her use the women's bathroom. There is an episode in which she confront's Ms.J.
She had to take another break from Franklin after the show ended to take care of an elderly relative.
