He graduated from the National School of Drama in Delhi. He later moved to London and joined the theatre group Tara where he performed in over 125 plays.

He shared the Best Actress award at the 1997 France's Valenciennes Film Festival for his performance as a transvestite in the 1996 Bollywood film Daayra.

He was born in Nainital, Uttar Pradesh, India. He died of a heart attack in Mumbai.
