Before Fame
He got his Northern Counties College of Education where he studied drama. He taught English and Drama at Walthamstow before joining Leeds Playhouse Theatre-in-education Company in 1971. He began his acting career in the four-part BBC series Days of Hope in 1975.
Trivia
He won the Laurence Olivier Award for Actor of the Year in a New Play in 1976 for his role in the play For King and Country.
Family Life
He was born in Denby Dale, West Riding of Yorkshire, and grew up next to a dairy farm. His father was named Harold and was involved in local theater productions. He married Natasha Pyne in 1972.
