Known to his online fans as Geriatric1927, this elderly vlogger joined YouTube in late 2006 and quickly rose to fame for his "Telling It All" video memoirs. A year after his death, his YouTube channel had been viewed close to ten million times and continued to maintain over 60,000 subscribers.
During the World War II years, he was a radar technician for the British Army. In the post-war period, he worked in Leicester, England's public health sector.
In his over seven years on YouTube, he uploaded more than 350 videos. His last video, posted just a month prior to his death from cancer, was uploaded on February 12, 2014.
A native of Norwich, Norfolk, England, he was a widower living in Bakewell, Derbyshire at the time of his YouTube stardom.
In the week after launching his channel, Oakley surpassed "First YouTube Star" Brooke Brodack in number of YouTube subscribers.
