An English-born fantasy and science fiction author, he is best known for his Xanth series. He is famous for publishing a book for every letter of the alphabet; his titles include Anthonology, Zombie Lover, and everything in between.
He moved with his family from England to the United States when he was six years old. After graduating from Goddard College (in Vermont) and serving in the U.S. Army, he became a United States citizen.
He wrote several book series, including the Cluster series, the Of Man and Manta series, and the Incarnations of Immortality series.
He married his college sweetheart, Carol Marble, in 1956. Together, they had two daughters: Cheryl and Penny.
He and C.S. Lewis are both notable fantasy authors.
