Designer of the Maitland Robinson Library at Downing College and the Brentwood Cathedral in Essex. He favored the classical Palladian style.
He attended Brynston School and the Architectural Association School of Architecture.
He was appointed by Margaret Thatcher to renovate 10 Downing Street while she was Prime Minister.
His son, Francis, also became an architect.
