Open water swimmer who was the first person to ever swim the Robben Island Crossing in South Africa at night.
He served nine years in the Israeli Army before moving to Cape Town, South Africa, where he made a name as a swimmer.
In 2008 he swam in Antarctica, across the southernmost swim in the world.
He raised four children with his wife Nadine Barka.
He received many comparisons to fellow extreme outdoor swimmer Diana Nyad.
