About
American professional skateboarder, musician, photographer, and cultural icon who became a pioneer of freestyle/flat-ground tricks in the street skateboarding world with a flowing style that featured his original "no comply" variations. He has also made a name for himself as a musician, having released a jazz-influenced instrumental album on his personal record label and appeared in live performances using both live instruments and looping techniques.
Before Fame
He moved to San Jose when he was approximately five years old and started skateboarding around the time he was 12 years old in 1983. He emerged into the scene through skate videos when street skating was still in its earliest stages.
Trivia
He released his debut EP, "Triumphant Procession," in 2003 under Galaxia Records. He later released "In Full View" in 2005. He also collaborated with The Mattson 2 for his 2007 album "Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2."
Family Life
He was photographed with his son Nolan at The Leica Gallery for Juice Magazine in March 2016. He shared a loving birthday tribute to his partner on his raybarbee Instagram account in April 2024.
