American sculptor who is internationally renowned for his public sculptures. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center.
He studied at the Junior School of the Art Institute and later at the Art Institute of Chicago.
He completed more public sculptures than any other artist in the country.
His mother was an artist and encouraged him to make art.
He was chosen by President Lyndon B. Johnson as one of the first artists to serve on the governing board of the National Endowment for the Arts.
