Religious leader best known as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has also previously served as a mission president and a General Authority Seventy.
Before Fame
He worked various jobs as a youth including driving a tractor to collect golf balls when he was 12 years old. He attended the University of Utah before pausing his studies to serve a full-time mission in the Eastern States Mission from 1970 to 1972. He resumed school briefly after returning from his mission before entering the business world. He joined Huntsman Chemical Corporation in 1976 and rising rapidly through executive ranks. He began working for the Church in an official full-time capacity in 1996 when he was called as a mission president over the New York New York Mission. He was elected to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 2015.
Trivia
He threw the ceremonial first pitch at an MLB Los Angeles Angels game in 2018 during LDS Night. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Business and Commerce from Utah Valley University in 1995.
Family Life
He grew up in the Cottonwood area of Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Melanie Twitchell in September 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have five children and numerous grandchildren together.
