Before Fame
He started his career playing for Govt. MAO College Lahore where he won the championship each year. He then started his domestic career in 1994 at the age of 17. He made his international debut the following year in September of 1995.

In addition to playing, he is also known for his coaching career including with the ECB as England's spin consultant for their home series against Pakistan.

He has two elder brothers, Sibtain who is also a professional cricket player, and Zulqurnain.
