Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer and songwriter known for her three-octave voice and her 2009 victory on Digicel Rising Stars, one of Jamaica's most influential music competitions. She is also known for songs like "Boxing Around," "Replay," "What If," "Dear Mr. Government," "Give My Soul to Jah," "Strike a Pose," and "Phenomenal Woman."
Before Fame
She began singing in church and then joined the choir at Herbert Morrison Technical High School. She was performing professionally at hotels in Montego Bay when she was 14 years old. She worked cabaret shows at Coral Cliff before earning a life-changing opportunity to audition for reggae star Tanya Stephens and toured Europe as her backup vocalist. She entered Digicel Rising Stars in 2008 under the stage name "Brown Shuga." She returned in 2009 and won the entire competition which launched her into the national spotlight.
Trivia
She placed second runner-up in the 2023 Jamaica Festival Song Competition. She originally performed as "Brown Shuga" but eventually shortened her name to simply Shuga due to a naming conflict.
Family Life
Her real name is Mitsy Campbell. She grew up in Bogue, Montego Bay, Jamaica, in a Christian home where her mother was a Seventh Day Adventist and her father operated a sound system which gave her early exposure to both gospel and reggae music.

She worked closely with Donovan Germain of Penthouse Records who is a legendary reggae producer known for developing artists like Buju Banton.
