Before fame
He started writing rhymes as a kid and was inspired by LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, and golden-era hip-hop. He moved to New York City in 1996 to study film at the School of Visual Arts, but after leaving school he began performing in the underground rap scene. He earned the nickname "Slaine" during these early years. His 2005 mixtape "The White Man Is the Devil, Vol. 1" helped boost his growing career which was followed by his group project Special Teamz - "Stereotypez" in 2007. He was recruited into La Coka Nostra alongside members of House of Pain and Ill Bill in 2007. His first notable acting role was in Gone Baby Gone in 2007. He released his first official solo album A World With No Skies 2.0 in 2011.

His real name is George Carroll. He was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He has spoken openly about being a father to one son who became a major motivation for his sobriety and lifestyle change.
