American guitarist and banjo player best known for being one of the two performers on the song "Dueling Banjos" in 1973 with Eric Weissberg.
Before Fame
He grew up in Mount Vernon and New Rochelle, New York. In the early 1960s he was part of the Garrett Mountain Boys, along with mandolinist David Grisman.
Trivia
He was a session musician throughout much of the 1960s and 70s, and also recorded and performed various advertising jingles of the era. His instrumental piece "Dueling Banjos" won the 1974 Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance.
Family Life
He died of prostate cancer on March 14, 2018, at the age of 76.
