Visual artist who has become renowned for her public, large-scale sculptures, including "Stacked Waters," "Fata Morgana" and "As Above So Below." She received the MacArthur Fellowship, also known as the "Genius Grant," in 2005.
She was appointed to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts by President Barack Obama in 2011.
Her parents are originally from Cuba. She has children.
Her "Stacked Waters" piece is a reference to Donald Judd's "stack" sculptures.
