American swimmer who won silver medals in the 200 and 400-meter medley at the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games. While attending the University of Florida, he won six NCAA titles and was named an All-American four times.
He grew up in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania graduated from Malvern Preparatory School.
He lost the 400-meter relay to Sweden's Gunnar Larsson by a margin of 0.002 seconds at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
His birth name is Alexander Timothy McKee. He is the fourth of nine children.
He and John Naber both swam for Team U.S.A. at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
