Before serving from 2007 until 2013 as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, this Democratic Party politician held office as Mayor of Worcester, Massachusetts.
After graduating from Fordham University, he worked his way through law school at the Western New England College School of Law.
In late 2011, he survived a one-car crash involving a government-issued automobile; it was later determined that he was traveling at over one hundred miles per hour at the moment of the accident.
His marriage to occupational therapist Tammy Sullivan resulted in two children: Katerine and Helen.
He served as Lieutenant Governor under the gubernatorial administration of Deval Patrick.
