Titus Brandsma

Dutch Catholic priest who was imprisoned and killed at the Dachau concentration camp because of his outspoken opposition to the Nazi party.

Before Fame

He was awarded a doctorate of philosophy at the Roman University in 1909.

Trivia

He was arrested by Nazi officers after he attempted to tell the editors of Catholic newspapers not to print official Nazi documents.

Family Life

His parents ran a small dairy farm in the Province of Friesland.

Associated With

He was beatified as a martyr of the faith by Pope John Paul II in 1985.
