Best known for racing in the British Touring Car Championship series, he made his professional debut in 2002; began competing in the World Touring Car Championship series under the Arena Motorsport Team in 2012, then joined RML in 2013.
He attended Reigate St. Mary's School and Shiplake College.
In 2010 he won the British Touring Car Championship Independents' Trophy.
His brother, Max Chilton, became a Formula One driver.
He made many appearances on Top Gear with Richard Hammond and the rest of the crew.
