Before Fame

She was raised within a musical household, as her father was a guitarist and her mother was a missionary minister. She also had several siblings. As a child, she sang in church and learned to play instruments from an early age. She went on to attend the Rochester School for the Performing Arts before joining the female vocal trio Sugah in the 1990s.

Her debut single "Oops (Oh My)" reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album, "Southern Hummingbird," went on to become certified Gold in the United States.

Family Life

Her real name is Charlene Keys. She was born to parents Tom and Shirley Keys. Her siblings include brothers Tom II, Cedric, Lonnie, and a sister named Sundra. She welcomed a daughter named Tashawna when she was 19 years old.
