British poet whose best-known works include Side Effects and From Me To You: Love Poems. Shortly after publishing a collection entitled Queueing for the Sun, she received the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
She studied at St. Anne's College, Oxford. She published her debut work, Side Effects, in 1978.
She published under the name of U.A. Fanthorpe.
Her life partner was Professor R.V. "Rosie" Bailey. The two co-wrote a 2007 work entitled From Me To You: Love Poems.
She and American poet Adrienne Rich were literary contemporaries.
