High-altitude aviator who became the first pilot to fly around the world alone.
He began working at age twenty-six as a parachutist for Burrell Tibbs and His Texas Topnotch Fliers, a flying circus.
His plane, the Winnie Mae, was displayed at the National Air and Space Museum and at the Smithsonian Institution.
He married Mae Laine in June of 1927.
He and James H. Doolittle were fellow aviators.
