He jumpstarted his musical career playing with The Gettysburg Address, a Winnipeg-based band.
He had a hand in writing many of The Guess Who's hits, including "Bus Rider," "Hand Me Down World," "Clap for the Wolfman," and "Follow Your Daughter Home."
He was made The Guess Who's permanent bassist in 2000, prior to their Running Back Thru Canada Tour, which gave his children, Gord and Marlo, an opportunity to see him perform live with the band.
He and Greg Leskiw replaced Randy Bachman after Bachman abruptly departed from The Guess Who.
