Major Polish composer and conductor of the 20th Century. He wrote four major symphonies from 1950-1954 titled Concerto for Orchestra.
His early music was heavily influenced by the Polish folk genre. He studied mathematics at Warsaw University.
He received the highest honor a Pole could receive: the Order of the White Eagle.
His brother passed away in a Siberian labor camp during the World War II years.
He and Krzysztof Penderecki were both innovative Polish composers of the Twentieth Century.
