About
Founded as a teachers' college, the university was named after Stephen Austin, one of Texas's founding fathers. It became one of four independent public universities in Texas.
Trivia
It houses one of two schools of forestry in the state of Texas, The Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.
