Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and lyricist known for writing and directing the hit war film Uri: The Surgical Strike along with his films Article 370, Dhoom Dhaam, Baramulla, Dhurandhar, and Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

Before fame

He developed an early interest in dramatics and music theatre. He grew up with dyslexia and gravitated toward creative activities rather than academics. He moved to Mumbai in 2006 to pursue a career in filmmaking.  He worked as a lyricist, assistant director, and dialogue writer in his early career. His early credits include songs for Kabul Express in 2006, Haal-e-Dil in 2008, and Daddy Cool in 2009 as well as dialogue work for Aakrosh in 2010 and Tezz in 2012. He wrote and directed Uri: The Surgical Strike which was released in 2019 and became his breakout project.

Trivia

He is also known for founding B62 Studios which he named after his childhood home in South Delhi. He won the National Film Award, Filmfare Award, IIFA Award, and Zee Cine Award for Best Director for Uri: The Surgical Strike.

Family life

He was born and raised in New Delhi, India. His mother Sunita Dhar worked as a dean at Delhi University. His brother Lokesh Dhar is also involved in the film industry. He married actress Yami Gautam in June 2021, and their child Vedavid was born in May 2024.
