German poet, author, playwright, journalist, and recipient of the Herder, Kleist, and Goethe literary prizes. Her works include Ostland: Gedichte; Gesammelte Gedichte; and Wie ich zu meiner Heimat stehe.
She began writing at a young age and had received the Kleist Prize for her lyric poetry by the time she was in her early thirties.
She became infamous for her allegiance to the Nazi Party; her poems were praised by Joseph Goebbels and other high-ranking Nazis.
She was born in Konigsberg, in what was then East Prussia.
She added her name to the Gelobnis Treuester Gefolgschaft ("Proclamation of Loyalty of German Writers") in 1933, professing her allegiance to Adolf Hitler.
