For leading Australian air missions during the World War II-era North-Western Area Campaign, this Royal Australian Air Force commander received both the Air Force Cross and the Commander of the Order of the British Empire honor.
After training at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, and subsequently serving with a Queensland-based Australian Army cavalry regiment, he joined the Royal Australian Air Force.
At the conclusion of World War II, he remained with the Royal Australian Air Force as a Senior Air Staff Officer.
He grew up in Tasmania as the son of Edwin and Louisa Charlesworth. He later settled in Victoria with his wife and daughter.
He and fellow Royal Australian Air Force member Bobby Gibbes both fought in World War II.
