Snowboarder who, at age 14, became the youngest medalist in X Games history by winning silver in the superpipe in 2013. He went on to win silver in the men's halfpipe at the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics.
He was raised in the city of Murakami in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. He started skateboarding at age four before picking up snowboarding a year later.
He was personally mentored by multiple-time U.S. Open halfpipe winner Kazuhiro Kokubo.
He has an older brother named Eiju. His father is the creator of the Nihonkai Skate Park.
He and snowboarder Kyle Mack both competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
