Tony Award-winning stage actress who earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in Breaking Away in 1979. The following year, she played Harriet Benjamin in the movie Private Benjamin.

Before fame

She had her first acting role in 1995 on an episode of the television series Ponds Theater.

She authored the young adult novels Lone Star and Adam Zigzag. She amassed over 120 on-screen roles throughout her prolific career. 

Family life

She got married to Jay Harnick in July 1964; the couple had a son named Aaron and a daughter named Jane.
