Perhaps most well known for her National Film Award-winning performance in the Bangladeshi historical feature Aguner Parashmani, she is also notable for her work in the movie Joyjatra and in the television drama Rupnagar.
She began her acting career after earning a master's degree in visual art from Dhaka University's Institute of Fine Arts.
Over the course of her career, she received UNESCO and Anyadin-Impress Telefilm Awards.
Her marriage to actor and director Toukir Ahmed resulted in two children. Her father, Abul Hayat, and her sister, Natasha Hayat, also successfully pursued acting careers.
She was born in the same year as fellow Bangladeshi film actor Salman Shah.
