Bassist and vocalist best remembered for his years as a member of the pioneering progressive rock band King Crimson and the hard rock supergroup Bad Company. He also recorded music with artists like Centipede, Jon Lord and Pete Sinfield.
He was born in Holbeach, Lincolnshire and played rhythm guitar in the band Tea Time 4 as a teenager.
He briefly replaced Roger Daltrey as the lead singer of The Who in the 60's.
He was survived by his wife Kath.
He was bandmates with Michael Giles in King Crimson.
