Before fame

He grew up around country music through his father's career. He began playing guitar when he was 13 years old and was performing live shows regularly as a teenager. He sometimes played multiple nights per week while still in high school. He graduated from Hardin-Jefferson High School in 2015. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for five years as an infantry rifleman including time stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He continued to work on music when possible while still in the military before returning to Texas around 2020 to pursue his career full time. His debut EP Lost Highway Songs was released in 2019. He gained early recognition in the early 2020s with his song "Even Texas Couldn't Hold Her." He released a second EP Down Mexico Way in 2021.

He was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. He is the son of Mark Chesnutt and Tracie Motley Chesnutt. He has brothers named Waylon and Cameron. He married Claire Chesnutt and they have a daughter together.
