Remembered for her FAMAS Award-winning performances in the Filipino movies Don't Cry for Me, Papa (1984), Igorota (1969), Angustia (1964), Emily (1961) and Kundiman Ng Lahi (1960), she is also well known for her Gawad Urian Award-winning work in the films Karnal (1984), Kisapmata (1982) and Ina, Kapatid, Anak (1980).
She starred in her first film, Nina Bonita, in 1955.
In the mid-to-late 1960s, she was the star of ABS-CBN's The Charito Solis Show.
Born Rosario Violeta Solís Hernandez, she spent her early days in Manila, Philippines. Her uncle, F. H. Constantino, had a successful career as a director and facilitated her early entry into the film industry.
Towards the end of her career, she co-starred with Vic Sotto in the wildly popular situation comedy Okey Ka Fairy Ko!
