Chris Whitty

About

Epidemiologist who has gained fame for his time as Chief Medical Officer for England and Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA), a post he assumed in October 2019. Also the Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) to the Department of Health and Social Care, he played a key role in the British government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before Fame

He graduated with a BA in physiology and Doctor of Science in medical science from Pembroke College at the University of Oxford. He went on to gain various other post-grad degrees, including an LLM in medical law from Northumbria University in 2005.

Trivia

He has served as the head of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) at the 2015 New Year Honours.

His parents' names are Susannah and Kenneth.
