American poet who received the Pulitzer Prize for Late Wife, a 2005 collection of poems. Her other poetry collections include Pinion, An Elegy; Figure Studies; and Secure the Shadow.
She received an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Virginia and an MFA in creative writing from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
She was the Poet Laureate of Virginia from 2008-2010.
She grew up in Chatham, Virginia. She married musician Kent Ippolito in 2000.
