Before fame

He developed an interest in acting as a teenager and participated through local theater productions, school performances, and musical societies. He eventually earned a scholarship to attend the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). He graduated from LAMDA in 2018 with a BA in professional acting which helped start his professional acting career. He began appearing in film and television projects shortly after graduating with one of his earliest film roles being in the 2019 coming-of-age film How to Build a Girl. He also appeared in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher in 2019. His career gained momentum in the early 2020s with appearances in larger productions including SAS: Rogue Heroes and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022. His major breakthrough came when he was cast as Mat Cauthon in The Wheel of Time and joined the show's second season in 2023. His career continued growing in 2026 when he took on the role of James Moriarty in the Amazon Prime series Young Sherlock.

Trivia

He was named one of Screen Daily's Rising Stars Ireland in 2023. He originated the role of Orpheus in the West End production of Hadestown in 2024 and became the first actor to play the role in the London production of the musical.

Family life

He was born and raised in the rural village of Dromina in County Cork, Ireland, where he was raised in a farming family. His parents are Dónal Finn Sr. and Maureen Finn. He grew up as one of eight children.
