British sculptor and medallist whose style of sculpting was influential to New Sculpture. He also wrote a series of books on sculpture.
He studied art in the studios of François-Joseph Duret and Aimé Millet.
He taught at the South Kensington Arts Schools and became the college's first Professor of Modelling.
His parents raised him in France and he later received British nationality.
He was friends with fellow sculptor Auguste Rodin .
