A German-language playwright, he is particularly known for his acclaimed drama, Morgen ist Regen, which premiered in London under the English title of Venezuela. He also published novels and poems.
He studied philosophy and German literature at universities in Luxembourg, Germany, and France.
His 2002 short story collection, Rost, was awarded the Servais Prize.
His older brother, Nico Helminger, is also known for his writing.
