Avant-garde, Imagist poet and author who wrote under the pen name of H.D. and is known for such poetry collections as Hymen and The God. Her prose works include The Sword Went Out to Sea and Palimpsest.
She studied at Bryn Mawr College, but left after three semesters to live and write in New York and England.
She consulted with famous psychological theorist Sigmund Freud on the issue of her bisexual orientation.
She married and divorced fellow poet Richard Aldington and had a series of other relationships with both men and women.
Her work was promoted by the renowned poet Ezra Pound. She and Pound were also briefly engaged.
