After serving as Kosovo's Minister of Economy and Finance, this high-ranking member of the Democratic League of Kosovo took office as Prime Minister of Kosovo.
He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Pristina and went on to serve as Mayor of Pristina, Kosovo.
Early in his political career, he served in the cabinet of Communist politician Rrahman Morina.
He grew up in Pristina, Kosovo (then Yugoslavia), in a family of the Islamic faith. His marriage produced one daughter and two sons.
He succeeded Hashim Thaci as Prime Minister of Kosovo.
