Most well known for her early 1980s Platinum single "Gloria," she is also remembered for her hit songs "Solitaire" and "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You." In addition, she was featured on the soundtracks of Ghostbusters, Flashdance, and Baywatch.
Before recording her debut, self-titled solo album in 1982, she belonged to a band called Meadow and also worked as a backing vocalist for Leonard Cohen.
She is remembered for her distinctive, four-octave alto voice.
A native of Brewster, New York, she died suddenly in her late forties of a cerebral aneurysm.
Her single "Gloria" earned her a Grammy nomination, though she ultimately lost the honor to fellow pop singer Melissa Manchester.
