Jamaican reggae singer known as the "Queen of Reggae" due to her decades-long influence on Jamaican music. She is especially known for songs including "Feel Like Jumping," "Stepping Out of Babylon," "I Shall Sing," and "Electric Boogie" which helped popularize the Electric Slide dance craze internationally.

Before fame

She began her professional singing career in 1964 after performing with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. Her first major solo hit came later with "Feel Like Jumping" in 1968 and her international breakthrough came in 1970 with collaborating with Bob Andy on "Young, Gifted and Black" which became a major UK hit.

Trivia

She was a member of the I-Threes which was the vocal trio that performed with Bob Marley and the Wailers during the 1970s and early 1980s. She was awarded the Order of Jamaica in 2023. Her hit song "Electric Boogie" was first recorded in 1983 before a 1989 remix helped turn it into an international dance classic through the Electric Slide.

Family life

She was born Marcia Llyneth Griffiths to Joseph and Beatrice Griffiths. She had two children with Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation DJ Errol Thompson and raised them after his death in 1983.
