Famous for her membership in the Japanese pop music group AKB48, she is also known for her acting work in television series such as You Taught Me All the Precious Things (2011), Kazokugari (2014), and Majisuka Gakuen (2010).
She first auditioned for AKB48 in 2005, but was not accepted into the group until the following year.
She has earned over 2.4 million Twitter followers. She launched a fashion line called Ricori.
She spent her youth in Fukuoka, Japan. She married in 2019 and in early 2020, she welcomed her first child, a daughter.
She and Minami Minegishi both rose to fame as members of AKB48.
