Before Fame

He earned his law degree from George Washington University in 1940 and briefly worked for the Federal Trade Commission before applying for a position with the FBI.

Trivia

He denied, at the time of the Watergate scandal, any involvement in the leaking to the press of information regarding President Richard Nixon's illicit activities. However, in May of 2005, he admitted to being the famous informant who had been dubbed Deep Throat.

Family Life

He met his wife, Audrey Robinson, while they were both students at the University of Idaho. Together, they had two children.

He was the anonymous source who gave journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein the information they needed to expose the Watergate scandal.
