Michael Boateng

English former professional soccer player and podcast host known for playing primarily as a right back and for representing clubs including Bristol Rovers, Sutton United, Newport County, and Whitehawk. He is also known for having hosted the podcast Banged Up.

Before fame

He played youth soccer for Addiscombe Corinthians and represented Archbishop Tenison's School. He trained in the youth systems of Crystal Palace from 2005 to 2007 and Woking from 2008 to 2010. He began his senior career with Carshalton Athletic in 2010 and made his Bristol Rovers debut against Wycombe Wanderers in the Football League Trophy in September 2011.

Trivia

He received a lifetime suspension from the Football Association in January 2015 due to conspiracy to commit bribery. He co-created the prison podcast Banged Up with Rob Morrison in 2020 which accumulated more than 250,000 streams during its first year. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison on drug supply charges in August 2025.
